hololive English 2nd Concert -Breaking Dimensions-

The second US concert event, “hololive English 2nd Concert -Breaking Dimensions-”, was held on August 24th and 25th at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY, over the span of two days.

This is the first time in history that a VTuber live performance took place at the historic Kings Theatre, which opened in 1929. We hope that this report from Kings Theatre conveys the sheer enthusiasm of the show.

Following the “hololive English 1st Concert -Connect the World-” held in July 2023, this was the second concert for the group, and all 15 talents belonging to hololive English performed on the stage. (Excluding 4 talents who recently debuted in June 2024).

In addition, Inugami Korone and Hoshimachi Suisei from hololive, and Moona Hoshinova and Kobo Kanaeru from hololive Indonesia, joined as guest performers. A total of 34 songs were performed over the two days including solo songs, unit songs, and cover songs.

The two-day concert reaffirmed the growing popularity of “hololive production,” which is expanding beyond dimensions, borders, and all boundaries.

“hololive English -Myth- was the top performer on DAY 1. The members of hololive English -Myth-: Mori Calliope, Takanashi Kiara, Ninomae Ina’nis, Gawr Gura, and Watson Amelia, performed the unit song “ReUnion.”

The performance was amazing as it opened the concert, and it made us feel their special bond as the five sang in a circle facing each other during the chorus.

M1 : ReUnion

Next, IRyS from hololive English -Promise- performed her solo song “Carbonated Love.” The “embodiment of HOPE” not only sang with her powerful voice, but also wowed the audience with her choreography including para para dance moves.
After that, Fuwawa Abyssgard and Mococo Abyssgard from “hololive English -Advent-” came out and won the hearts of the fans with their “cute” stage performance.
They performed “Born to be ‘BAU’DOL☆★,” a denpa song, and drew huge “BAU BAU” chants from the audience with their cute singing and dancing.

M3 : Born to be “BAU”DOL☆★

After Fuwawa Abyssgard and Mococo Abyssgard wowed the audience again with their MC, Ceres Fauna and Nanashi Mumei from “hololive English -Promise-” collaborated on a new unreleased song “It’s Not a Phase.”
The contrast between the punkish emo rock and the soft voices of the two created a uniquely refreshing sensation.
Shiori Novella from “hololive English -Advent-” covered “world.execute(me);” by Mili.
The members of hololive English -Advent- unveiled their 3D models for the first time in August 2024. Although it was the first time for Shiori to perform a 3D concert in public, her core shone true, showcasing her impressive talent.

Ouro Kronii from hololive English -Promise- showed her versatility in a cover of “Bocca de la Belita”, a VOCALOID song by Hiiragi Kirai. Kronii expressed the dark ambiance of the song with diverse vocal techniques, from a rumbling approach to a glamorous falsetto.
Before the next song, the stage underwent a dramatic transformation. The classical interior of the Kings Theatre transitioned to a more modern New York City streets theme. According to the three-stage concepts “The Past,” “The Present,” and “The Future”, the stage design shifted as the concert progressed.

Ninomae Ina’nis, Gawr Gura, Moona Hoshinova, and Hoshimachi Suisei descended upon the neon-lit city stage. The audience roared with excitement to see the dramatic appearance of these four members, and the cheers grew louder as they began to sing “BIBBIDIBA,” a hit song by Hoshimachi Suisei that represents the VTuber scene in 2024. The way the four members danced and sang was a sight to behold.

M7 : ビビデバ / BIBBIDIBA

Takanashi Kiara, Nanashi Mumei, and Nerissa Ravencroft sang the electronic dance-pop song “Beyond the way” (Giga) in a glamorous way.
Takanashi Kiara then brought the audience into a tropical mood with her own solo song “Pineapple.” She enchanted the fans with her “so sweet” singing and invited the audience to shout “Pineapple,” elevating the crowd’s energy.

Then, all the members of “hololive English -Promise-“—IRyS, Ceres Fauna, Ouro Kronii, Nanashi Mumei, and Hakos Baelz appeared on stage and performed “Our Promise” for the first time at the concert, a unit song recently announced in June. The rich orchestral sound and the harmony of the members depicted the timeless feeling of “Promise” that will never fade away.

Ceres Fauna then sang a solo, 真夜中のドア〜Stay With Me (Mayonaka no Door~Stay With Me)” (Miki Matsubara), a classic of Japanese city pop. Fauna’s melancholy vocals were wonderful, and the audience sang along with the chorus of the song, which was remarkable to see how the song has made an impact outside of Japan.

The stage then shifted to a futuristic look, and Watson Amelia, Koseki Bijou, Fuwawa Abyssgard, and Mococo Abyssgard took the spotlight to perform the magical song “Fushigi Puru Puru Rin Rin!” (Rumi Shishino), a song full of dreams and cuteness. This song was sung by Watson Amelia solo at the “hololive 3rd fes. Link Your Wish” event in 2022, and she must have loved performing it again in New York with her cute junior members.

Next up was an inter-regional collaboration between Ouro Kronii, Kobo Kanaeru, and Inugami Korone, who performed Kobo Kanaeru’s solo song “HELP!!” The synergy of the three was exquisite as they sashayed through the cool music with rap parts mixed in.
Gawr Gura then sang “World is Mine” (Supercell) solo. The phrase “The #1 princess in the whole wide world” and the charming “Ahh!” exclamation matched very well with her voice.

As the concert approached its climax, the CHADCAST trio (Mori Calliope, IRyS, and Hakos Baelz) with Koseki Bijou performed a cover of “BLUE CLAPPER.” The song, sung by hololive 5th generation under the name “hololive IDOL PROJECT,” is a staple concert song with lots of clapping from the audience, and although the lyrics are in Japanese, the song resonated strongly with overseas fans as well, with resounding claps filling the venue.

Finally, the performance moved on to the last song of the night. As the stage’s rear section lifted, the 15 members of hololive English made their entrance. The last song of the day was the theme song “Breaking Dimensions,” which was created specifically for this concert. The lyrics of the song included the names of each unit, “hololive English -Myth-,” “hololive English -Promise-,” and “hololive English – Advent-,” as well as phrases from unit songs, with each of the 15 members taking turns with solo parts, bringing the song together into a single, grand finale.

The DAY 1 performance did not end there. In response to the audience’s enthusiastic encore, the story continued. A special movie was shown on the screen reflecting on the past of the members of hololive English.
Amidst the memories of the times spent with them, the message “Together to the future” was displayed, and the 15 members took to the stage once again. The real last number of DAY 1 was their first ensemble song “Connect the World.” It was the theme song and the first number for the first concert of hololive English, “hololive English 1st Concert -Connect the World-.” The arrangement was made by Ryota Nakano, who also worked on hololive’s first all-star song, “Shiny Smily Story,” and the beautiful melody and expansive sound of the song included the flavors of the previous song. The hopeful unison vocals of the members united the feelings of the world, from those attending at the venue, to those watching the live stream. The DAY 1 performance ended with the assurance to all fans that the future is bright with them.

EN : Connect the World

The DAY 2 performance began with the “hololive English -Advent-” theme song “Rebellion” a unit song by Shiori Novella, Koseki Bijou, Nerissa Ravencroft, Fuwawa Abyssgard, and Mococo Abyssgard. These rebels who escaped from “The Cell” known as “boring everyday life” brought us to a new world through their concert performance. Notably, the part where Nerissa Ravencroft sings the Japanese phrase in the chorus solo, combined with her powerful singing voice and the power of the words “異次元の向こう側 (ijigen no mukou gawa) つれてってあげる (tsuretette ageru),” caused the energy in the venue to shoot up from the very first song.

M1 : Rebellion

Hakos Baelz entered the stage with a backdrop of a burning flame behind her. She performed the particularly aggressive number “GEKIRIN” from her first album “ZODIAC.” Her sharp dance moves and cool high kicks demonstrated her skill as a performer.
Watson Amelia covered “Mogu Mogu YUMMY!,” the solo song by Nekomata Okayu, a member of hololive GAMERS. Watson Amelia has often hummed this song in her streams and other occasions, so this cute rendition surely impressed all fans.

Next, Koseki Bijou took the stage to cover “EAGER LOVE REVENGE” (supercell). Koseki Bijou’s lovely voice suited the slow, serious tone of the song, which interprets love as a battle.
Ninomae Ina’nis chose the song “Synchrogazer” by Mizuki Nana, the OP theme for the TV anime “Senki Zesshou Symphogear.” Although it is a difficult song with an up-tempo and a wide range of sounds, she sang it gracefully, making full use of her beautiful falsetto.

Surprising the audience was the collaboration with Fuwawa Abyssgard, Mococo Abyssgard, Kobo Kanaeru, and Inugami Korone. They sang Inugami Korone’s solo song “Doggy god’s street”. Fuwawa Abyssgard and Mococo Abyssgard, embodying the hellhound theme, perfectly suited the phrase “Bow-wow-wow!” and the choreography of the doggy poses. Kobo Kanaeru adorable “Awooo!” howling added extra charm, and Inugami Korone’s cuteness was undeniable.
The “TAKAMORI” duo, Mori Calliope and Takanshi Kiara, performed their collaboration song “Fire N Ice,” an electro-disco song by TeddyLoid. The song was sung with passion and featured a synchronized dance performance, further fueling the audience’s fervor.

M6 : Doggy god’s street

The rare combination of Ninomae Ina’nis, Ouro Kronii, Shiori Novella sang “FACT,” a song by hololive 4th generation member, Tokoyami Towa. The three showed their freshness with their velvety lower vocal tones.
Nanashi Mumei appeared on stage smiling and waving her hands, expressing the excitement of taking a new step forward with “A New Start,” an original song full of fantasy in Irish-style music. The theme of the performance, “Break Through the Wall,” was also a perfect fit for this song.

Next, the FUWAMOCO duo, Fuwawa Abyssgard and Mococo Abyssgard, covered the song “SHINKIRO” by GuraMarine (Houshou Marine x Gawr Gura). The song was a surprising choice for FUWAMOCO to sing with Gura from the original group present, but the harmony between their voices was so natural to the original. FUWAMOCO’s voice had a more dangerous scent that made the audience’s brains melt.

Following this was Nerissa Ravencroft’s solo song “Sweetest Scarlet,” which had an urban groove in the style of city pop. The song is from her first EP, “In My Feelings,” which was released in August of this year, and highlighted Nerissa’s mature and sophisticated vibe.

As the stage was transformed into a futuristic design, Ceres Fauna, Shiori Novella, and Nerissa Ravencroft took the stage to perform a sweet cover of Tommy february6’s retro electro-pop song “Lonely in Gorgeous.” Their choice to cover this track, which has recently gained international attention due to support from artists such as Charli XCX, reflects their cutting-edge taste.

The excitement further intensified with the performance by IRyS, Hakos Baelz, IRyS, Moona Hoshinova, and Hoshimachi Suisei. When Moona Hoshinova started to sing her popular song “High Tide,” the venue erupted into enthusiastic cheers. The four, who are known for their exceptional singing skills, sang the dramatic song powerfully, supported by a strong dance beat.
The hololive English -Myth- performance started with Mori Calliope, who is popular in the major music scene as a solo artist, performed “Go-Getters,” the ED theme song for “Isekai Suicide Squad,” her first anime tie-up song. From her signature rap to the eerie chorus reflecting her grim reaper persona, she performed the hard-hitting dance-pop track with a blend of power and elegance.

Next to appear were hololive English -Myth-‘s Gawr Gura and Watson Amelia. They danced and sang the world-famous song “Idol” (YOASOBI) in a charming way. The audience’s enthusiasm was palpable, with excited cheers and penlight maneuvers that matched that of a Japanese idol concert. It was truly the moment that “So strong, it’s you, unrivaled idol” was born.

The last song of DAY 2 was “Breaking Dimensions.” As with DAY 1, it was very impressive to see all 15 members lined up in two rows, smiling happily as they sang their song, breaking all boundaries.
The encore was even bigger. All 15 members returned to the stage to perform “Our Bright Parade,” the theme song for “hololive 4th fes. Our Bright Parade,” held in 2023. The English version of “Our Bright Parade (English ver.),” which hololive English -Advent- released in July of this year, was sung by hololive English -Myth-, hololive English -Promise-, and hololive English -Advent- in unison, providing a beautiful ending to the two-day event.
The emotional choreography of all the members facing each other at the end of the song marked the splendid conclusion to the two-day celebration..

EN : Our Bright Parade (English ver.)

It has been four years since the debut of hololive English -Myth-, the first group of hololive English, and now hololive English has evolved from live streaming and other online activities to successfully hold large-scale real-life concerts.
As the title “Breaking Dimensions” suggests, this performance was the culmination of their efforts to expand their own possibilities by breaking down all dimensions, boundaries, and barriers. It was clear that this concert was a major milestone for them.
What kind of future will they show us next? We are so excited and can’t wait.
